This is a bit of a bummer for the 49ers.
Why isn't Brock Purdy playing? Explaining why 49ers' QB is Mac Jones on Thursday Night Football originally appeared on The Sporting News
Mac Jones is playing quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams.
That means Brock Purdy isn't out there, a bummer for the 'Niners.
It initially was a bit of a surprise, too, after Purdy was active for Week 4.
But this is an incredibly dinged-up 49ers team, and Purdy is just the latest to miss some more time after he already missed a couple games.

Why isn't Brock Purdy playing?
Brock Purdy isn't playing on Thursday Night Football for the 49ers against the Rams because of an injury.
He was ruled out Wednesday due to his toe injury.
Purdy missed Weeks 2 and 3 with his Week 1 ailment, then returned in Week 4, but he felt discomfort in the loss to the Jaguars and so is being held out.

The 49ers are also without star wideouts Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall.
Purdy will get an extended break to recover thanks to the added time off after a Thursday night game.
The 49ers certainly hope he'll make it back.
