Finally, an update on Woodruff
Pat Murphy spoke to reporters (including Adam McCalvy, Jack Stern, and Curt Hogg) today and offered our first concrete update on Brandon Woodruff, among other things. It’s a bit of a bad news/good news situation. Here’s where we are at:
- Woodruff will not pitch in the NLDS, but Murphy hasn’t ruled him out for the postseason and says his surgically repaired shoulder is “100% healthy.” Curt Hogg adds that it’s unlikely Woodruff could be available for a potential NLCS, as he has not been throwing, but could conceivably be available if the Brewers were to advance to the World Series.
- Coming off his appearance on the last day of the season, Trevor Megill is ready to go, and has told Murphy that he doesn’t care whether he closes games or not.
- DL Hall, who also returned on the season’s last day, is also ready to go, but it’s unclear if he’ll get an NLDS roster spot.
Another health-adjacent update: Murphy said that the Brewers “haven’t decided” between Quinn Priester and Jose Quintana as the game two starter. That Quintana is in consideration for a game two start not only confirms that he’s healthy, but it’s also a bit of a surprise; Quintana didn’t close the season very well. I still expect to see Priester in game two and some sort of bullpen game in game three, with Quintana involved alongside Chad Patrick and Jacob Misiorowski.
