At a time when the European Super League council has been in focus again, in light of their proposal to UEFA, Javier Tebas is a name that is likely to dominate the Spanish press.

In fact, the La Liga president recently spoke to the media (h/t COPE), talking about Barcelona’s potential exit plans from the Super League and renewing ties with UEFA.

Tebas also talked about Lamine Yamal’s latest injury and Barcelona’s growing tension with the Spanish national team, as well as the return to Camp Nou.

Tebas on Camp Nou return

Barcelona were hoping to return to Camp Nou later in October. But those plans could take time as the project continues to get delayed further.

Amid all this chaos, Tebas admitted that it would be better to see Camp Nou shining in its full potential rather than rushing back. He also denied meeting Joan Laporta regarding the project.

“I haven’t spoken or known anything beyond what I’ve read,” he said. “Sometimes different dates are mentioned. There are licenses and issues, and they hope to play as soon as possible at their stadium.”

Tebas went on to hail the Camp Nou project, admitting that the stadium deserves a grand opening.

“For me, I would have loved for them to have already returned to their own stadium, but that’s the situation. However, if these issues must be faced in order to end up playing in a top-tier stadium as Barcelona is doing, it will be worth the wait.”

“I believe that everything related to renovating stadiums and developing the best possible facilities is worth the effort, rather than complaining about everything,” he said.

Tebas on Yamal and Super League

Talking about reports of Barcelona potentially leaving the Super League project and strengthening their ties with UEFA, Tebas hopes for the best.

“I hope so. I think President Laporta said something similar and showed some kind of loss of confidence in the project,” he said.

The La Liga president urged Barcelona to be more involved with UEFA competitions.

“And for my part, I would be very happy if Barcelona abandoned this project and became more involved in European projects,” he added.

Finally, Tebas was asked about Lamine Yamal, who has picked up yet another injury and could be sidelined for three weeks.

Talking about the recent war of words between Barcelona’s Hansi Flick and Spain’s Luis de la Fuente, he stated, “I haven’t followed the matter, I saw Luis’s statements, Flick’s statements, and the injury… but I haven’t followed it.”

“In any case, there are many matches, and players get injured and miss out, that’s always the story, between international matches, the national team, the league.. I’ve seen this movie before,” he added.
