After helping Sunderland earn promotion back to the Premier League last season, Wilson Isidor (25) has continued his fine form at the top level. The French striker has scored three goals in six matches so far this campaign, confirming his growing importance to the Black Cats’ impressive start.
In an interview with L’Équipe, Isidor revealed how far he has come after a turbulent few years. Having emerged from Rennes’ academy before spells at Monaco, Laval, Borgo, Lokomotiv Moscow, and Zenit St. Petersburg, the forward admitted that he once considered “quitting football altogether” before reviving his career in England.“I’d like to set myself the goal of going to the World Cup — it’s obviously a dream,” he told L’Équipe.“I have two options: France and Haiti. Haiti have already approached me, but I haven’t made a decision yet. For now, I’m focused on my club. With France, I know the guys — I’ve played with or against them.”While Les Bleus began their qualifying campaign with victories over Ukraine (2-0) and Iceland (2-1), Haiti are also in contention for a place in the tournament. Coached by Sébastien Migné, the Caribbean side are competing in the third round of Concacaf qualifying, facing Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua for a direct ticket to the finals.GFFN | George Boxall
