Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will not play in the Week 5 game against the Houston Texans, but he could be out longer than that. Here's what we know about the Ravens' superstar quarterback.
How long is Lamar Jackson out? Latest injury update on Baltimore Ravens quarterback originally appeared on The Sporting News
The last thing the 1-3 Baltimore Ravens could afford was to lose quarterback Lamar Jackson for any period of time.
But that nightmare has become a reality in Week 5, as Jackson was ruled out for the game against the Houston Texans after sustaining a hamstring injury in Week 4.
While some thought Jackson might not have been injured in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs and was simply pulling himself out of the blowout loss, that obviously turned out to be dead wrong.
"There was no way he was going to go back in the game. The injury precluded it,” head coach John Harbaugh said of his star quarterback. “During the game, you’re really just playing the next series as a coach. But there was no way he could go back in the game. I know Lamar — if he could’ve gone back in the game, he would’ve been in the game. That’s how he is."
Not only is Jackson unable to play because of injury in Week 5, he could be out longer than that.
How long is Lamar Jackson out?
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, not only is Jackson not suiting up on Sunday, the expectation is he sits in Week 6, also.
"Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (hamstring) is not currently expected to play this Sunday vs the Texans, nor next week vs the Rams (outside of faster healing, which still can be deceptive)," she wrote. "The bye week is after that. That’s a good safe window to help better ensure the hamstring issue doesn’t reappear later in the season when it counts more."
This tracks with a report from Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun, who reported that Jackson could be out two to three weeks with his hamstring issue.
If Jackson does indeed sit out in Week 6, the earliest we'll see him back on the field is in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, as Baltimore has a bye in Week 7.
Talk about a well-timed bye. Thanks to the week off, Jackson has another week to get right without potentially having to miss a third game.
In the meantime, the Ravens will deploy veteran backup Cooper Rush, who completed 9-of-13 passes for 52 yards in garbage time last week.
