Jose Mourinho remains magnet for controversy just as he was at the start of his coaching career in Portugal.

His fiery personality resurfaced ahead of the Porto vs Benfica derby in Matchweek 8 of the Portuguese League.

Porto entered the clash leading the table with 21 point from 7 game while Benfica sat 3rd on 17 point.

Mourinho Clashes with Journalist Over Salary Question

According to Mundo Deportivo, Mourinho lost his temper during the pre match press conference when asked about his salary at Benfica.

The journalist told him:

"You didn’t come cheap for the club, you have impressive resume"

Mourinho fired back sharply:

"Why do you feel the need to link games to my salary? What’s your salary .. will you say it? no? then don’t talk about mine"

He added sarcastically:

"You keep saying if I’m expensive, I’m stingy too. How much do I make or not .. does it matter?"

When the reporter tried to clarify that he meant no disrespect, Mourinho cut him off:

"You’re not disrespectful, just very curious about my salary"
"We only wanted 1 Point .. And Got It"

After the tense press conference, Mourinho guided Benfica to goalless draw away to Porto .. a result he described as "mission accomplished".

Speaking to Sport TV, he admitted:

"We only came for one point. The situation was complicated. I told the players I couldn’t risk losing"

He continued:

"It was crucial not to lose. Sporting also dropped points so we’re still alive. We played calmly, with strong character"

The Portuguese tactician praised his side’s control:

"Our goalkeeper Trubin didn’t make a save. Porto hit the post once .. that’s all. We made them suffer in their own stadium"

Hostile Return to Porto

Mourinho who once led Porto to Champions League glory, was met with boos and objects thrown from home fans.

He dismissed it calmly:

"Excellent, no problem"

After the draw, Porto lead the league with 22 points, three ahead of Sporting and four clear of third-placed Benfica.
