Johnny Manziel called Alabama football QB Ty Simpson after Vanderbilt win, per sources

Johnny Manziel's postgame interaction was not his only interaction with Alabama QB Ty Simpson Saturday.

After Alabama football's 30-14 win against Vanderbilt on Saturday, Oct. 4, Johnny Manziel approached Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson.

The former Texas A&M quarterback took in Alabama's win as a Vanderbilt fan, standing on the Commodores sideline in a Diego Pavia jersey − a quarterback Manziel told the "Nightcap" podcast he talks to once a week.

After the game, Manziel was captured interacting with Simpson, telling the Alabama quarterback that he was "playing like a baller."

That was not Manziel's only interaction with Simpson.

According to multiple sources, Manziel had a short call with Simpson after the game Saturday night. The contents of the call have not been disclosed.

"If Simpson's going to play ball the way he has played the last two weeks, Alabama has a chance to play with anyone in the country," Manziel told the "Nightcap" podcast. "I had to go up to him after the game. I'm on the field. I'm obviously sitting there in a Diego Pavia jersey. That is my dog. And people are asking me in the stadium, 'Why are you wearing that jersey?' What do you want me ,to do? Walk in with a Mark Ingram jersey and I can't go back to A&M in two weeks? What do you want me to do? This is my guy, a guy I talk to weekly. And I'm pulling for him."

Manziel also said Alabama was "punishing up front" and that "the gaps and the holes that they had from an offensive standpoint today were massive."

"They were gashing Vandy all day," Manziel said.

Simpson completed 23 of 31 pass attempts for 340 yards against Vanderbilt. He threw touchdown passes to Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard, and threw his first interception of the season.

Alabama will face Missouri at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, on ABC.
