Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley four-star EDGE Andrew Rogers is one of the nation’s top edge rusher prospects in the 2026 class. Previously a member of the 2027 crop, he opted to move up a year back in July and speed up his recruitment.
He initially planned to commit to a school in August, and did so by pledging to Virginia Tech.
But less than six weeks later, he has had a change of heart. Rogers told Rivals’ Adam Gorney on Tuesday that he is moving back into the 2027 class again. He also said he remains committed to the Hokies “for now” despite the firing of head coach Brent Key and the upcoming staff changes in Blacksburg.
“It just felt right,” Rogers told Rivals’ Chad Simmons when he committed on August 22. “I’ve been to Virginia Tech multiple times — and each time, it was the same energy, the same focus. It’s all about the team, and I really liked that.”
Other schools remained in pursuit of him after that pledge, though. He visited Tennessee early in September and is scheduled to be at Florida State this weekend. The Vols made a big impression during his trip there, and he even received a handful of expert predictions to flip there.
Rogers is also high school teammates with Tennessee five-star quarterback commit Faizon Brandon.
“The experience was one of a kind,” Rogers told Simmons after that visit. “The fans recognized me, the energy was live, and I loved it. The whole place was like no other. From the actual game to the fans, it was special.”
For now though, he’ll be the lone Hokies commit in the 2027 class as his recruitment extends for another full year. Rogers currently checks in as the nation’s No. 361 overall prospect, No. 46 EDGE and No. 19 player in the Tar Heel State, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
