At age 21, Seth Trimble made a major leap in the business space. The North Carolina guard became the youngest Ben & Jerry’s owner in company history, purchasing the location on Franklin Street.
It was an opportunity for Trimble to use his NIL dollars to help make an impact on the community by owning a business. As for how it came about, though, he said it stemmed from an early interest in the field.

“It’s always been a thought, just try and start entrepreneurship as young as I could,” Trimble said on The Field of 68. “My parents, they really pushed me with that.”
Trimble has a relationship with Antonio McBroom, who previously owned the location. When McBroom considered moving on, the idea was there for Trimble to take over as owner. That led to some conversations, and it ultimately led to the acquisition over the summer.
“My great family friend who owned the store before, named Antonio McBroom, he owned the store and he was pretty much ready to get rid of it,” Trimble said. “He always pitched the idea of that to me.
“I mean, he blessed me. He blessed me to put me in the position, spoke with my parents. I spoke with him. We were just so eager to jump on that. That’s all because of him.”
It was also a way for Seth Trimble to further immerse himself in the Chapel Hill community ahead of his senior season. He’s expected to be a key contributor for a North Carolina roster that has plenty of new faces coming aboard. As a junior in 2024-25, he set new career-highs with 11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as UNC became the last team into the NCAA Tournament.
But he’ll also look for off-court success as he ventures into the business world. After receiving a commemorative golden spoon from McBroom to celebrate ownership of the Ben & Jerry’s location, Trimble told Inside Carolina he’s ready to see his vision come to life.
“I’ve just always had the idea of growing and continuing to expand and show who I am outside of the basketball court,” Trimble told Jeremiah Holloway in August. “And this is an example of showing it now, but I’ve always had that vision. I know the ball doesn’t dribble forever. I know that as a human being, I’m allowed to have many interests in life.
“Basketball is the thing that I crave the most. It’s what I love to do, but there are things that I also want to explore, and that’s the business world, that’s entrepreneurship. That’s just seeing what I can do and how successful I can be in these other fields.”
