Barcelona defensive target waiting to gauge Real Madrid intentions

It is known that Barcelona have recently set their sights on England defender Marc Guehi as a potential signing for the summer of 2026, when his contract with Crystal Palace comes to an end. 

The 25-year-old has emerged as a top target for the Blaugrana as they look to strengthen their defence under Hansi Flick. 

However, recent reports from Florian Plettenberg indicate that Barcelona may face stiff competition for Guehi’s signature, particularly from Real Madrid.

Guehi is reportedly keeping his options open and is curious to see whether the Spanish champions make a move for him. 

This could complicate Barcelona’s plans, as the defender’s interest in Madrid clearly shows a bias towards the La Liga tidal rivals. 

With multiple top clubs across Europe also eyeing him, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Barcelona are facing a competitive battle to secure one of their primary defensive targets.

Liverpool continue to push hard for Guehi, with talks ongoing for a free transfer next summer. 

Their interest is concrete, and they are determined to land the England international if Crystal Palace allow it, something that almost happened on the deadline day this summer. 

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have also shown serious intent, particularly as a potential replacement if either Dayot Upamecano or Min-jae Kim were to depart.

For Barcelona, the situation is delicate. While they remain firmly interested in Guehi, the prospect of Real Madrid stepping in adds a new layer of uncertainty. 

The Blaugrana will need to act strategically to convince the defender to choose them over other European heavyweights, ensuring that they do not miss out on a key addition to their squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
