LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – Lisbon senior running back Ashton Hinchcliffe cemented himself as one of the most prolific Blue Devils’ rushers as he became the program’s all-time leading rusher this season.

“I’ve had the fortune of coaching Ashton since he was in seventh grade,” said Lisbon head coach Bill Meek. “I coached him when he was in junior high, and he’s always been our guy, and he’s a very humble kid.”

The senior running back has amassed over 3,500 rushing yards throughout his high school football career.

“I knew I was close, but I didn’t really know how far away I was, so I didn’t really keep track of it that much,” said Hinchcliffe.

Hinchcliffe broke the record in a 49-17 win against Newton Falls this season.

The previous record was held by Lisbon running back Jason Thompson in the 2016 season.

Hinchcliffe, through seven games, has 751 rushing yards and 439 receiving yards. Coach Meek said his star back doesn’t have any many yards as he usually does because this season he has lined up at receiver as well.

“He’s going to hit you; they’re going to be sore if you come up and tackle him,” said Meek.

The senior Blue Devil owns four total records. He owns Lisbon’s most receiving yards in a game (224), longest reception (93), most touchdowns in a game (5), and the all-time rushing title.

“It helps a ton because you can just keep the momentum going every week and just keep playing like you had the week before,” said Hinchcliffe.

Lisbon plays next against Southern on Friday Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
