Mooney standout breaks nearly four decades old record

Cardinal Mooney junior defensive back Jaie Manningham broke the program single-game record for interceptions with four in a 10-7 win against Chaney.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Cardinal Mooney junior defensive back Jaie Manningham broke the program single-game record for interceptions with four in a 10-7 win against Chaney.

Watch above for Manningham’s highlights and interviews about his performance!

“He’s very disciplined, he was very sound last week,” said Cardinal Mooney head coach Frank Colaprete. “He had his eyes where he needed to be and got in the spots where he needed to be to capitalize.”

The Mooney star broke a program record which stood since 1987. The previous record-holder was Marcus Coleman, who had three picks in a single game.

“I consider myself as a ball hawk, balls up in the air, and I’ll go and get it, no matter where I’m out in the field,” said Manningham.

Manningham recorded his first four interceptions of the season in the win against Mooney.

“It’s crazy, it’s wild,” said Colaprete. “Pretty impressive, especially as much as we throw the ball nowadays.”

This is the junior Cardinal’s first season at Cardinal Mooney, as he was previously a student at Chaney.

“It’s great, I’m going to tell my kids about it for sure,” said Manningham. “This was my second game starting, second game playing really.”

Manningham said his record-breaking performance came on just his second start of the season.
