Detroit Lions place another CB on injured reserve and promote fan favorite Dan Skipper

The Detroit Lions placed veteran backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey on injured reserve and signed offensive tackle Dan Skipper to the active roster Wednesday.

Another Detroit Lions cornerback has been moved to the injured reserve list.

This time it’s veteran backup Khalil Dorsey who is being shelved for the foreseeable future.

Dorsey hurt his wrist in practice last week upon returning to the field after clearing concussion protocol.

Offensive tackle Dan Skipper, who has been on the practice squad since the beginning of the season, will replace Dorsey on the active roster, the team announced Wednesday, Oct. 8.

With Dorsey out of action for at least the next four games, the secondary’s threadbare depth has been severely impinged yet again. In the past two games, the Lions have lost their two starting cornerbacks. D.J. Reed strained his hamstring in a Sept. 28 victory over Cleveland and was placed on injured reserve.

Terrion Arnold then aggravated a shoulder injury late in the third quarter of Detroit’s win over Cincinnati on Sunday. Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Arnold would be “out for a long time.” He didn’t revise that forecast after a report Tuesday suggested that Arnold could return sooner than expected.

Detroit Lions offensive tackle Dan Skipper (70) celebrates 34-17 win over Chicago Bears as he exits the field at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024.

“There is a second opinion that came in, and now it’s OK, let’s see if we can strengthen it a little bit and get a little bit of inflammation out,” Campbell said. “I don’t know how long that is going to be though, so I may still go back that he may be out a while. … We’re kind of in this wait and see.”

With little clarity about Arnold’s potential availability in the near term, the organization signed cornerback Arthur Maulet to the practice squad. Maulet, who is in his ninth NFL season, has bounced around the league.

He most recently was a member of the Houston Texans during the preseason and performed well in a victory over the Lions in August. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound Maulet has primarily been deployed in the slot in recent years.
