Stephanie Vaquer captured the Women’s World Championship at Wrestlepalooza, but an illness she suffered before Wrestlepalooza almost canceled the match.

At WWE Wrestlepalooza, Vaquer managed to defeat IYO SKY to win the vacant Women’s World Championship. However, we were close to this matchup never taking place.

In a recent interview with Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Vaquer disclosed the illness she suffered before the biggest match of her career.

“I was sick for three weeks before my match, but really sick,” Stephanie Vaquer recalled. “I had a bacteria in my throat. Something really weird. I couldn’t eat or drink anything for three days. I felt so weak, so bad, but all the WWE medical team helped me and supported me a lot.

“They almost canceled my match because the medical team said, ‘You’re not cleared yet.’ But I told them, ‘Please, I promise I’m ready.’ Maybe I didn’t really feel good. My body felt weak, but I said, ‘I need to do this match. I need to make history.’ Sometimes you need to fight with your heart, not with your body.”

Stephanie Vaquer is excited for her first WrestleMania next year

Next year, WWE WrestleMania 42 will return to Las Vegas, and Stephanie Vaquer is excited to be part of it this time around. Later in the same interview, Vaquer shared her reaction to potentially competing at WrestleMania for the first time next year.

“First, I’m excited to return to Las Vegas. I love Las Vegas,” Vaquer said with a smile. “It’s always a big show there. For me, for my career, Wrestlemania is… It’s Wrestlemania! I’m excited for that reason. I enjoy it a lot. I was there last Wrestlemania just watching, but now I want to be there and have a great match.”
