Speaking in Rome, where he attended the meeting of the European Football Clubs, Barcelona president Joan Laporta endorsed the views expressed by Hansi Flick and Deco regarding the attitude the squad must adopt to face the challenges of the current season.
Flick, after the draw to Rayo Vallecano in August, had come out and warned against ‘egos’ in the squad. Meanwhile, after the recent defeats to PSG and Sevilla, director Deco warned the players about dropping the intensity that was a hallmark of the team last season.
And, Laporta came out and stated that he stands by what Flick and Deco said, insisting that both the manager and the director do not want the players to slack off after last season’s domestic treble success.
“It’s a reflection. We’re coming off three major titles last season —the Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, and La Liga – and we just missed out on the Champions League, which is even more motivation for this year,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“What they want is for there to be no slacking off, for us to have the same intensity, the same spirit, the same desire, the same hunger as last year.”
Meanwhile, Laporta also dismissed any doubts regarding the work of Flick, with the German coach finding himself under pressure after the back-to-back defeats last week.
“We still believe, of course, in the team and in Hansi Flick. Deco made some very accurate statements. It’s true that we have a very competitive team if we work hard,” he said.
“That’s what Hansi and the players are for, and they’ll move in this direction. This year we have to maintain this tension, and those were two very good reflections from Deco and Flick,” concluded Laporta.
