Fever guard Sophie Cunningham progressing with knee injury recovery

Despite doctors orders to be cautious in her recovery from a right MCL tear, Sophie Cunningham remains adventurous in her offseason activities.

Despite suffering a torn MCL in her right knee on Aug. 17 and having surgery soon after, Sophie Cunningham has clearly been living life fearlessly as she recovers, so much so that she may or may not be strictly adhering to her doctor's orders.

The soon-to-be eighth-year WNBA star said on the Tuesday episode of her "Show Me Something" podcast that she has ceased wearing casts and braces on her surgically repaired knee, and that her right knee is close to having a full range of motion.

When discussing the reasoning behind her ditching of the recovery aids, Cunningham pointed to her lack of patience. While a lack of patience is typically viewed as a negative trait, Cunningham's constant drive to live life fearlessly and freely is what has caused her to have little patience.

"I'm not the most patient person. I do pray for patience, but I kind of let myself out of that cast without a doctor's order," she said. "I had my check-up and they're like, 'You're progressing really well and you look awesome.' I said, 'Say less.'"

Cunningham also mentioned that she has already begun her offseason training, which consists of lifting weights and staying generally active.

"I'm getting back to the point where I'm lifting weights and get moving," she said. "That doesn't happen to me very often. That's good."

As Cunningham enters the league's offseason as an unrestricted free agent, she has expressed interest in returning to Indiana next season. While she clearly desires to stay with the Fever, that will ultimately be decided by how the next CBA's verbiage is constructed, especially regarding the double-expansion draft for both the Toronto Spirit and Portland Fire.
