On Sunday, after the Miami Dolphins fell to 1-5 with their latest loss, Tua Tagovailoa stepped to the podium and called out his teammates, and some might also say the coaching staff, with some very pointed criticism.
Naturally, the Dolphins’ starting quarterback was being asked what he thought about the team’s struggles this season. Tagovailoa essentially questioned the team’s discipline and leadership, making claims that some players, whom he wouldn’t name, were late and/or skipping player-only meetings.
It didn’t take long for one of Tagovailoa’s former teammates to chime in.
On Monday, one-time Dolphins defender DaeSean Hamilton took to X to basically call Tagovailoa a liar.
“This dude…the starting QB…was late to the first team meeting during my 3 seconds on the Dolphins, and everything was all cool in there,” Hamilton said.
From where we’re sitting, it looks like Hamilton is not only saying Tagovailoa isn’t the leader the Dolphins QB tries to portray himself to be. Yet, we believe he’s also saying that head coach Mike McDaniel didn’t even care that Tagovailoa was late to practice.
If so, that feels unusual for someone who’s supposed to be one of the team leaders. After all, Tagovailoa was voted as a team captain by his peers.
Who knows. If Tagovailoa really was and/or is late to meetings, his teammates don’t seem to think it’s a big deal; Otherwise, they may not have made him a captain. Still, it’s a bit odd for Tagovailoa to specifically take an issue with players not being on time when it sounds like he himself is a bit human too.
