Lola Appleby, Homestead girls golf
The freshman will make her WIAA state girls golf tournament debut after finishing third individually at the Beaver Dam Sectional at Old Hickory to qualify by shooting a 75, just behind 2024 state champion McKenna Nelson (72) from Beaver Dam and runner-up Payton Haugen (73) from Brookfield East.
Ben Bausch, Marquette boys soccer
Bausch has had a knack for scoring key goals for the Hilltoppers and that trend continued this past week. The forward tallied a goal against Wauwatosa East during the week and then scored the game-winning goal Oct. 11 in a 1-0 victory over 2024 WIAA Division 1 state champion Middleton.
Nicholas Bongard, Nicolet football
Bongard was massive in the fourth quarter for the Knights in a 29-28 victory over Whitefish Bay on Oct. 10. The quarterback went 14-of-23 for 244 yards and four touchdown passes, including a game-winning two-point conversion to Cooper Harris to cap a 15-point final quarter for the Knights to snap a five-game losing streak.
Tegan Loechler, Divine Savior Holy Angels girls volleyball
Loechler was huge for the three-time defending Division 1 state champions last week, helping the Dashers go 6-0 with Greater Metro Conference wins over Menomonee Falls and Sussex Hamilton. DSHA won its own invite Oct. 11, defeating Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Bay Port, Arrowhead and Slinger while not dropping a set. In six matches, Loechler filled the box scores with 63 assists, 37 kills, 23 digs, 18 aces and 11 blocks.
Natalia Martinez, Brookfield East girls tennis
The freshman continued her magical campaign by being seeded fourth in the upcoming WIAA state individual girls tennis tournament. The Spartans have two of the top four seeds with top seed Caroline Raster after Martinez won the second singles flight at the Brookfield East Sectional last week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Arrowhead's Iris Liu in the final.
