San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed there is a chance that tight end George Kittle will return to practice this week, which would put him a step closer to returning to the field for San Fran.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was eligible to come off injured reserve last week, but that did not happen.
Kittle was placed on injured reserve after the Week 1 game due to a hamstring injury and has now gone through the minimum four-game stay.
But will the Niners get their star tight end back this week?
Here's what head coach Kyle Shanahan said.

According to Shanahan, the team is hopeful that Kittle will return to practice this week, which opens the door for him to play in Week 7 versus the Atlanta Falcons.
"Kyle Shanahan says the team hopes TE George Kittle (hamstring) returns to practice this week," NFL Network's Mike Garafolo relayed.
First things first, the Niners have to designate Kittle to return from injured reserve. After that, the team has 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster or else he has to stay on IR the rest of the season.
So, just because the team designates Kittle to return doesn't mean he will suit up in Week 7. Even still, simply designating him to return puts Kittle on a direct path to returning to the field.
Kittle is just one of many injuries the 49ers have seen to their pass-catchers this year.
Both Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings have missed multiple games, and Brandon Aiyuk is still working his way back from a significant knee injury suffered in 2024 and his exact return date remains unknown.
Sitting at 4-2, the Niners are primed to make a postseason push this year if they can get healthy. Getting Kittle back would be a massive step in the right direction.
