The Buffalo Bills haven't had the services of kicker Tyler Bass for the entire 2025 season thus far and there remains no end in sight to his absence.

After dealing with a pelvic injury during the offseason, Bass was placed on injured reserve to start the season with a left hip/groin injury.

The four-week minimum stay was up after Week 4, which means Bass has been eligible to return from injured reserve for two weeks now. Of course, that hasn't happened.

Based on a recent answer given by head coach Sean McDermott, not only is it not clear when Bass will be back, there are now doubts about him playing at all this season.

When asked if either Bass or rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston would play this season, McDermott offered an ominous two-word response.

"We'll see," McDermott said on Oct. 9.

McDermott did add, however, that both players are moving in the right direction in their respective recoveries, so there's that, also.

It's possible McDermott is just playing coy here, which seems to be the most likely  explanation for his answer given the fact that he has continuously said Bass is making progress. There has been nothing to suggest Bass had a setback.

It's also possible McDermott is mum because the Bills want to continue to ride it out with veteran Matt Prater until the wheels fall off and are simply stashing their other kicker for now.

Prater has been very good in 2025, with the 41-year-old making 10-of-11 field goals entering Week 6 and all 15 of his extra point attempts.

We have a sneaking suspicion that the second Prater starts to struggle, we're going to see Bass activated off IR shortly thereafter.
