Former Real Madrid academy star Chema Andrés is making the most of his move to the Bundesliga.

After leaving Real Madrid this past summer, the midfielder joined Stuttgart in search of first-team opportunities, and he is enjoying every moment of his new life in Germany.

Though he is now a rookie in a new league, Chema has already earned a strong reputation within the team.

A regular for Spain Under-21s and a European Under-19 champion in 2024, Chema has drawn comparisons with Rodri Hernandez.

Learning the ropes at Stuttgart

In an interview with EFE (h/t Mundo Deportivo), the former Real Madrid midfielder opened up about his role in the Bundesliga team.

“In Germany, I’m the rookie. But I like that role of learning, of being the newbie. Of having the big players do things for you and show you how things work,” he said.

He appreciates the chance to learn from experienced teammates while gaining valuable first-team experience.

His move to Germany was carefully considered, as he explained,

“After weighing up all the options we had, we decided that Germany and Stuttgart were the best fit for me and my idea of gaining experience.

“Stuttgart is a big club in Germany and lately they’ve been investing a lot in young players, which is what I needed.

“A club that believed in young people and wasn’t afraid to put them in the spotlight.

Also, after talking to several coaches I’ve had, they told me that going abroad would be good for me.

“They explained that this change of scenery would be good for me as a player and as a person.”

Rodri remains an inspiration

Chema is also aware of the comparisons with Rodri Hernandez, a player whom Real Madrid admire, but he keeps his perspective.

“People say that, yes, but the only thing we have in common is that we play with our shirts tucked in. At the end of the day, he’s a great player and I’m trying to be like him.

“He is an example for all Spanish players, especially in my position, because we see ourselves reflected in him.”

The young Spaniard’s move to Stuttgart is already paying off.

With a clear focus on learning, adapting, and growing as a player, Chema is making a smooth transition, and if all goes to plan, Real Madrid do have a buy-back option, something that they are considering at the moment.
