MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Several local high school football teams have punched their tickets to the playoffs. Baker knocked off Foley 41-9 to solidify a spot in the Class 7A bracket.
The win earned Baker head coach Eric Scott our JBT Power Coach of the Week honor!
With the victory, the Hornets improve to 5-2 overall. Baker is 4-1 in region play and they have officially clinched a spot in the postseason. The team will now play for seeding over the next three weeks.
The win was also great for family bragging rights. Eric Scott got his first crack to beat his twin brother’s team. Deric Scott has led the Lions for six seasons. While the brothers have met when Eric Scott was a defensive coordinator at Baker, this was the first meeting between the two as head coaches in Class 7A.
Eric Scott served as the Hornets’ defensive coordinator and helped lead the team to their first playoff win in 40 years last season under Juan Johnson.
Baker will close the season against three strong opponents. The Hornets play at No. 3 MGM on Friday night. They will play Fairhope (6-2, 4-1 region) in the last region game and Vigor (No. 1 team in 5A) in the regular season finale.
