The San Francisco 49ers are one of the most banged-up teams in the NFL. With injuries to players on both sides of the ball at key positions, but still at 4-2, an active trade deadline would be far from abnormal for the 49ers.
San Francisco could look to find a Fred Warner replacement or add to their banged-up wide receiver room. But one of the more pressing needs is a pass rusher, and there's one player that sticks out as a great fit.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the 49ers "have been scanning the trade market" for pass-rushing help. Of their options, Fowler reports that San Francisco considers Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals as an "ideal fit."
49ers eyeing Bengals' Trey Hendrickson as an 'ideal fit' at the trade deadline
"I'm told the Niners consider Trey Hendrickson an ideal fit for their defense if the Bengals would part with him for a reasonably priced compensation," Fowler reports.
Landing a star pass rusher like Hendrickson would be an incredible boost to the 49ers' defense. While the cost won't be cheap, it's something that the 49ers are very interested in.
The 30-year-old pass rusher is signed to a one-year, $29 million deal. It was one he and the Bengals agreed to after a long standoff, which could also factor into a potential deal.
Unfortunately for the 49ers, Fowler also reports that the Bengals have no plans to trade Hendrickson, despite their 2-4 record. After Cincinnati traded for Joe Flacco to be their new starting quarterback, the team has new life to sneak back into the playoff hunt.
The veteran pass rusher would be a great pickup for the 49ers if they could pull this trade off. In six games this season, Hendrickson has four sacks and 15 tackles.

Just a season ago, Hendrickson was a Pro Bowler with an NFL-leading 17.5 sacks, also earning his first first-team All-Pro, and finishing as the runner-up for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
He was remarkable for the Bengals last season, and would command a high contract on the open market. But if the 49ers could land him in a trade, they could add a rental option to try and contend this season in the wake of Bosa's injury.
The 49ers are looking around the NFL for potential pass rusher additions, and they view Hendrickson as their ideal fit. While swinging a deal with the Bengals won't be easy, if Cincinnati continues to lose, then a path to trade could open up.
For now, the 49ers' ideal fit at the trade deadline might be a long shot, but it's one that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch are likely to pursue. Hendrickson would be a great pickup for the 49ers if they can make it happen. With less than a month until the deadline, the 49ers will have some work to do to try and pry Hendrickson from the Bengals.
