PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The University of Oregon released on Monday that two Oregon runners, Benjamin Balazs and Diana Cherotich, have been named USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week after dominating at the Bill Dellinger Invitational last weekend.

Portland native and junior Balazs led the Ducks to the Dellinger Invitational team title, running the 8K in 23:08.2. The Ducks’ top five runners on the men’s side finished 1-2-3-4-6, which scored enough points for UO to sweep the Dellinger individual and team titles — the first time since 2022. Balazs becomes only the seventh Oregon man to win this invite.

Freshman star Cherotich broke 19 minutes at her first-ever race as a Duck and easily won the women’s 6K in 18:58.81. UO also finished 1-2-3-4-6 on the women’s side, which was good for the women’s team title.

The Bungoma County, Kenya, native is only the third Oregon woman to receive USTFCCCA national cross-country honors and the ninth to win the Dellinger title.

Oregon will now head to the 2025 Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 31.
