Inter Milan Treble Winner On Cloud Nine As His Son Excels At Club Brugge: “To Say I’m Proud Would Be An Understatement”

Inter Milan icon Dejan Stankovic revealed how proud he felt when his son, Aleksandar, earned his first cap for Serbia.

Speaking to Kurir via FCInterNews, Stankovic refused to hide his joy.

Indeed, the 20-year-old, who left Inter Milan for Club Brugge in the summer, is rapidly developing into an elite midfielder.

Despite his youth, Stankovic has already established himself as a regular starter at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Furthermore, his rapid growth has not gone unnoticed.

Despite offloading him only a few months ago, Inter are already considering bringing him back to base.

However, the Nerazzurri must pay a substantial €23 million fee to activate a buyout clause in their deal with Club Brugge.

Meanwhile, Stankovic is thriving on all fronts.

He made his senior debut for Serbia last week, featuring in his country’s dismal 1-0 defeat to Albania.

That result significantly reduced Serbia’s chances of qualifying for next summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Yet, Stankovic showed glimpses of his quality, impressing fans at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.

“What could I have told him before the match, considering he’s a better player than I was at his age?” Stankovic claimed.

“I don’t know if I was more nervous now for his game or when I played.

“I remember 1999, the match against Croatia. It was very important for a million reasons.”

Furthermore, Stankovic highlighted Dragan Stojkovic’s praise for Aleksandar, citing ‘Piksi’ as saying: “Aleksandar always has three options.”

Little did anyone know that Stankovic’s debut would also be Stojkovic’s last game in charge.

Indeed, the 60-year-old resigned from his job after his side’s underwhelming home loss to Albania.

Meanwhile, Stankovic continued with his praise of Aleksandar, referring to Stojkovic’s abovementioned statement.

“I think he always has five,” he added. “To say I’m proud of him is an understatement.”
