Bayern Munich have enquired about signing Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck (h/t German journalist Florian Plettenberg).

The Bavarians are planning for defensive reinforcements due to the uncertain futures of Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano.

Talks have been continuing with Upamecano for a renewal, but the Frenchman’s demand for a hefty signing bonus worth around €20 million is proving to be a stumbling block for the German giants.

Bayern are keen on continuing their journey with the French centre-back, but at the same time want to avoid overpaying him.

His situation has alerted European giants like Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United and Inter Milan. They are ready to provide him with a lucrative salary and meet his signing bonus demands.

Meanwhile, Kim’s future appears to be away from Allianz Arena, having struggled for regular game time this season.

The South Korean centre-back has just made four appearances in the Bundesliga and Champions League, while being benched on several occasions.

He has been linked with a return to Serie A, with Juventus and AC Milan emerging as the suitors.

Schlotterbeck’s contract situation at Dortmund has caught the eye of top European clubs, including Bayern, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona.

The German international has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga with his great performances at Dortmund since his transfer from Freiburg.

The 25-year-old’s outstanding ball-playing abilities and defensive solidity make him one of the most coveted centre-backs in the market.

His contract expires in June 2027, and Dortmund have tabled a renewal offer with an increased salary worth €10 million per season.

Schlotterbeck hasn’t responded yet to the proposal, however, Dortmund are confident that he will accept it.

Meanwhile, Bayern are looking to raid their arch-rivals for Schlotterbeck if he has a change of mind.
