PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — It won’t count in the standings but it still means a lot to basketball fans along I-74.
Illinois State plays an exhibition game at Illinois on Sunday. It’ll be the first time the schools have played a basketball game with one another since 2011.
“I’m very appreciative that we can take our team over there. It’s an exhibition game so we are going to learn about our team,” said ISU coach Ryan Pedon. “It’s not going to define us. But it’s a great opportunity for our program.”
Both teams will be playing their first exhibition games of the season.
“They’ll give us a lot of different looks,” said Illinois coach Brad Underwood. “I don’t know what to expect. And that’s the beauty of these things, you don’t play to win. You play to learn a lot about you’re team, at least we do anyway. we know we are going to get a veteran team that will execute and make us earn everything.”
The game is scheduled to tip at 2 p.m. Sunday at State Farm Center.
In high school soccer Thursday, Metamora’s John Jones scored with 3.4 seconds remaining to give the Redbirds a 1-1 draw with visiting Normal Community. Chatham Glenwood blanked host Dunlap, 2-0.
Volleyball winners included Limestone, Morton, Washington and Eureka.
