Carson Beck stood in front of the cameras, his voice calm but his words cutting deep. “I have to protect the ball better,” he said. “That can’t happen. It’s unacceptable.”
The Miami quarterback had been nearly flawless for most of the season, but Friday night was different. Beck threw four interceptions, including one late that sealed the loss. It was a night when Miami never took the lead and had difficulty finding offensive balance.
“They challenged us up front to try to stop the run and play zone behind it,” Beck explained. “There are times where maybe I was a little too aggressive. That’s part of the game, but I have to be better.”
Even when asked about the final interception in field goal range, Beck didn’t deflect. “We called the play and they blitzed off the edge. I think there was a miscommunication with the routes that were supposed to be run,” he said. “It’s a tricky situation when you’re in field goal range already.”

Despite the loss, Beck’s message was one of perspective and resolve. “It’s a good thing that we play 12 games and not just one,” he said. “This game doesn’t define us. Just because this game went bad doesn’t throw away the first five games we had. We’ve been very successful this season, and we laid an egg tonight. That starts with me.”
His closing words were simple and telling. “I have to prepare better. I have to play better. And I will. On to next week. 1 and 0.”
