Here are 5 quick observations from the Jets' 13-6 loss to the Panthers in Week 7.
The New York Jets stacked up another loss in Week 7, this time against the Carolina Panthers.
At MetLife Stadium, the Jets (0-7) failed to put up offense and even though an opponent, once again, didn't do well offensively either, New York could not capitalize. The Panthers (4-3) took home a 13-6 win.
But as the Jets like to do, this one got interesting.
With that, here are Jets Wire's five takeaways from the Jets' loss to the Panthers:
Fields benched
The story of the day: The Jets benched Justin Fields... finally.
Fields had another poor performance in the first half for the Jets. He was just 6-for-12 passing for 46 yards. He was sacked three times and rushed for 22 yards as well.
After the game, head coach Aaron Glenn did not commit to a starting quarterback for the team's next game.
Tyrod clearly a better passer
Tyrod Taylor stepped in for Fields. He was not great as he was 10-for-26 passing with 126 yards and two interceptions.
Even so, Taylor still clearly looked like a more confident passer. Both of his interceptions were shots down the field, something Fields never even attempts.
More interestingly, the Jets really started to look comfortable just calling pass plays in general with Taylor. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand even drew up a trick play. You could never imagine that happening with Fields...
Abandoned the run
While thinking of trick plays, Engstrand appears to have completely forgot about the rushing attack and Breece Hall.
Despite it being a close game in the second half, the Jets offense leaned extremely heavy on the passing attack... for some reason... even though they're a much better rushing offense.
Some injuries happen
The Jets did sustain some bumps and bruises once again.
Thankfully the likes of running back Breece Hall (lower body) returned from being sidelined. A name to now watch is cornerback Sauce Gardner. He is in the concussion protocol after departing the game in Week 7.
Defense now being failed
All in all, a second-straight game holding an opponent to only 13 points. The Jets defense failed to force a turnover again, but that's still a heck of an outing. The Panthers have ran the ball all over teams lately but didn't do that in New York.
Most teams would have won their last two games... but not the Jets.
