Chargers sign TE Tanner McLachlan to practice squad

The Chargers are signing former Bengals TE Tanner McLachlan to the practice squad.

On Thursday morning, the Chargers announced the signing of tight end Tanner McLachlan to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team is releasing rookie center Josh Kaltenberger.

McLachlan is a former sixth-round pick of the Bengals in 2024 while simultaneously being a sixth-round pick in that year’s CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders. McLachlan did not appear in any games for the Bengals and was eventually part of final cutdowns this past August.

McLachlan had a notable career at the University of Arizona where he played from 2022-2023. After two years at at Southern Utah, McLachlan transferred upwards and found success immediately. In his first season at a Power 5 school, he recorded 34 receptions for 456 yards and two touchdowns. He improved on those numbers in his final season with 45 catches for 528 yards and four scores.

At the NFL Combine, McLachlan ran a 4.61 40-yard dash at 6’5 and 241 pounds. He was a vertical threat and seam stretched for the Wildcats with a skillset that looked like it would transfer well to the NFL. Now he lands with a team looking for tight end depth with a shot at impressing in the final weeks of the season.
