As of writing this article, I checked in on the odds for the upcoming Las Vegas Bowl Game between Utah and Nebraska.
Utah is currently favored by 15.5 points.
There are a lot of reasons for that huge spread including coaching changes, injuries at quarterback, no Emmett Johnson and an apparent inability to stop the run. That last part is a big deal as Utah is the second ranked rushing team in the country. Navy is first and the Air Force is third.
It is rare to see a 15.5 point spread between two power four teams in a bowl game but there are obvious reasons for such spread.
On that subject, when the Nebraska bowl game matchup was announced the comments were interesting. I guess I would characterize them as exasperated. Heck even a little bit of pessimistic nihilism.
On one hand, we know that comments on twitter are generally going to be on the extreme side in either direction. So while I have not gotten a great feeling on the actual temperature of Nebraska football fans it is my assumption that we are going into it expecting to lose. Which makes a lot of sense but the replies gave me the expectation that somehow we should have expected a better matchup?
I’d rather play a better team in a “meaningless” bowl game. It’s a great opportunity for players to make an argument for themselves and yes there is the opportunity that Nebraska could pull an upset. It is fun.
Which brings me to my final point, we wait ALL YEAR for Nebraska football games to start. We only get twelve regular season games a year and if we are lucky we get some extra. So why not go into the game and just try to enjoy it?
That’s my plan.
Lets do it!

Rhule: ‘Great assistant coaches, they recruit’
We know at least one San Diego State staffer for sure who will come with Rob Aurich to Nebraska.
As already reported on Thursday, Roy Manning is set to come aboard as part of the Husker defensive staff.
That shouldn’t surprise considering the success the edge rushers, which Manning coached, had in the Aztecs’ highly ranked defense this past year.
Todd Bowles says Bucs’ ‘inexcusable’ loss falls on players
Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles blasted his players and challenged them to “look in the mirror” after his team blew a two-touchdown lead in the fourth quarter and lost 29-28 to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night at Raymond James Stadium.
The Buccaneers (7-7) lost for the fifth time in six games to fall a half-game behind the Carolina Panthers (7-6) in the NFC South.
Fans accuse FIFA of ‘betrayal’ over World Cup ticket prices
Fans have accused FIFA of a “monumental betrayal” after the latest ticket prices for the World Cup began circulating Thursday.
The governing body allocates 8% of tickets to national associations for games involving their team to sell to the most loyal fans.
And a list published by the German soccer federation revealed prices ranged from $180 to $700 for varying group stage games. The lowest price for the final was $4,185, and the highest was $8,680.
