“If the Jaguars win out, and this one team loses two games…“
That’s right. A rooting guide… for playoff seeding… for the Jaguars!
This is usually the time of year when we root for a high draft slot and pay extra attention to college prospects. Not the case for Liam Coen’s Jags.
Jacksonville (9-4) holds the No. 3 seed in the current AFC playoff picture behind Denver (11-2) and New England (11-2). If the Jaguars win out, and the Broncos and the Patriots drop two games, the road to the Super Bowl could go through Duval County. Next week’s JAX @ DEN matchup will be monumental.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves!
Like any normal week, we’re rooting for the Jaguars to win and the rest of the AFC South to lose today. If JAX (vs NYJ) wins and HOU (vs ARI) and IND (at SEA) lose, the Jags will have an 85% chance to capture the division — compared to a 61% chance entering this week — according to The Athletic’s playoff simulator.
We’re also rooting for the Bills to top the Patriots in Foxborough, and for the Packers to beat the Broncos at Mile High. If JAX wins and DEN and NE lose, the Jags will have a 16% chance to earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed — compared to 7% entering this week.
