Real Madrid may have secured three points against Alavés on Sunday night, but the victory at Mendizorroza was overshadowed by a deep sense of anger and indignation within the club. The flashpoint came from a controversial moment involving Vinicius Junior, whose penalty appeal was waved away by referee Víctor García Verdura — a decision later upheld by VAR official Pablo González Fuertes. The penalty was clear. The decision was shocking.

The incident, which saw Vinicius go to ground inside the penalty area after contact from an Alavés defender, was deemed inconsequential by both the on-field referee and the VAR booth. That verdict has not sat well with Real Madrid, who were denied a clear penalty in a match that once again reignited tensions between the club and Spanish refereeing authorities.

Xabi Alonso was visibly unhappy with the decision, but it was Real Madrid TV that gave voice to the club’s collective fury in an explosive post-match broadcast. What followed was one of the most scathing denunciations of Spanish refereeing heard this season:

“We are going to have to start taking measures. We are not going to continue allowing what is happening to happen,” RMTV declared. “There is no doubt that Spanish refereeing is going to make history. We are not going to continue to put up with what we are putting up with.”

The rant quickly escalated, tying the incident to broader grievances and long-standing frustrations.

“The same things are still going on… This is the filthy Negreira League. Real Madrid competes with their arms tied and must play very well to compete. It is day after day. It is resounding.”

RMTV dismissed the idea that referee criticism stems from the club’s own media pressure, rejecting claims that videos produced by the channel influence officials.

“The problem is not the Real Madrid TV videos, that is a lie. It’s not a question of intensity… This is no longer human error. This has another name.”

The harshest words were reserved for VAR official Pablo González Fuertes, whose decision not to intervene infuriated the club.

“It has been so shameless, so clear, so evident,” the broadcast continued. “One take is enough, you can see the penalty clear. VAR has been completely inhibited.”

Real Madrid TV went as far as calling for González Fuertes to be removed from officiating duties altogether.

“Gonzalez Fuertes cannot whistle again, he must be disabled… There is no name for what he has done. They are harming Real Madrid in a very gross way. The images are there, they leave no doubts.”
