TRANSFER PORTAL: Colorado Cornerback DJ McKinney commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame dips into the transfer portal for a tall and athletic defensive back from the Big 12.

Notre Dame may not have struggled in the transfer portal as much as some people would like to think. On Monday, it was announced that Colorado Buffaloes cornerback, DJ McKinney, is committed to the Fighting Irish.

McKinney was a 3-Star recruit in the 2022 class from Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas. McKinney was with the Oklahoma State Cowboys for his first two seasons, and transferred to Colorado in 2024. With the Buffaloes, he played in 22 games and tallied 97 tackles and 4 interceptions.

At 6’2” 180 pounds he is, at least physically, from the Leonard Moore mold. While his stats don’t jump off of the screen, Notre Dame defensive backs coach Mik Mickens is the best in the business and will get the most out of this intriguing and athletic prospect. The irish are in need of experienced cornerbacks and nickels β€” and McKinney has the ability to help the Irish in both spots.

His announcement was a little botched as this was announced and then recinded last week β€” but now it’s official.

Welcome to Notre Dame DJ!
