After the FA Cup tie between Manchester United and Brighton, both Micah Richards and Alan Shearer had similar thoughts on Matheus Cunha and three key Manchester United players.

Matheus Cunha was named in the starting line-up for United on Sunday night, playing the full match against Brighton.

The former Wolves forward played alongside Mount and Sesko, though it was Sesko who stood out most among them.

The young Slovenian striker scored his second goal in as many games, heading in from a Bruno Fernandes corner late in the second half. However, United were already 2-0 down by that point.

The Red Devils could not find another goal to level it up before full-time.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the FA Cup at the third-round stage following a 2-1 home loss to Brighton.

Late in the match, United’s situation worsened when youngster Shea Lacey was sent off for dissent after receiving his second yellow card.

During The Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer commented on what he sees as a lack of top-level talent in United’s squad this season under Darren Fletcher and Ruben Amorim.

“They’re just not very good,” the former striker said.

“I just, I don’t know what you’re [Micah Richards] laughing at, but that is the truth.

“They’re just not very good. I mean, the whole club, when you look at it, there’s so many errors and mistakes and everything else.”

Richards brought up the attacking group of Benjamin Sesko, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha, questioning whether they truly lack ability.

“Yeah, but I’m looking at it here, not where they’ve got Mount, Fernandes, Cunha and Sesko – your front four,” he said.

“Like, it’s good enough, isn’t it?”

Shearer agreed with Richards about the quality in United’s attack, but felt it was not coming together on the pitch.

He told the former full-back: “It should be, but it isn’t, is it?

“It’s just not a happy place at the minute. I mean, Fletcher’s in there at the moment.

“What has he had? Burnley away and Brighton at home – and he drew one of those.

“They’ve spoken to Michael Carrick and to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer [about the Man Utd role] over the weekend, I gather, in terms of the interim, maybe till the end of the season.”

Manchester United will now host rivals Manchester City in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday, marking their return to Premier League action.
