LSU has added a former five-star quarterback to its rebuilding roster, signing transfer Husan Longstreet, the school announced Wednesday. As the Tigers begin reshaping the position ahead of their first season under new head coach Lane Kiffin, there appears to be competition for the No. 1 spot.
Longstreet arrives from USC and was widely regarded as one of the top 20 players in the transfer portal regardless of position. His commitment helps address LSU’s most urgent roster need after the Tigers ended the season without a scholarship quarterback returning. LSU has also signed Arizona State redshirt sophomore Sam Leavitt and Elon redshirt freshman Landen Clark.
A dual-threat quarterback, Longstreet spent his freshman season backing up Jayden Maiava at USC and saw limited action, playing 44 snaps in four games. He completed 13 of 15 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, while adding 76 rushing yards and two scores on 11 carries. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
At 6-foot, 200 pounds, Longstreet entered college as one of the nation’s top prospects. He was the No. 25 overall recruit and the No. 4 quarterback in the 2025 class out of Centennial High School in Corona, California, according to 247Sports. He previously committed to Texas A&M before signing with USC.
LSU’s quarterback room was fully depleted after fifth-year senior Garrett Nussmeier exhausted his eligibility and Michael Van Buren and Colin Hurley transferred out. Kiffin and his staff are now overhauling an offense that averaged under 23 points per game. They're assembling what is shaping up to be the largest transfer class in program history as the Tigers look to reset quickly in Baton Rouge.
