Barcelona set to host crucial board meeting on Thursday: What you can expect

Barcelona are gearing up for a crucial meeting this week, with the board of directors scheduled to hold a crucial ordinary meeting this Thursday to address several pivotal issues.

While all eyes will be on Barcelona’s Champions League fixture against Slavia Praha and the subsequent league game against Oviedo, the meeting could be of significant importance.

Barcelona board meet: What’s on the agenda?

As reported byMundo Deportivo, high on the agenda is the official setting of the date for the upcoming presidential elections.

According to club statutes, elections must be held between March 15th and June 15th. While March 15th was initially considered, the logistical uncertainty surrounding the game makes things complicated.

Barcelona indeed have a match against Sevilla, which sits between Champions League Round of 16 legs. Therefore, it is considered most likely that the board will select Sunday, March 22nd, as the date for members to cast their votes.

Beyond the elections, the board will officially convene an extraordinary General Assembly, expected to take place remotely on February 7th or 8th.

This assembly will be vital as members will be asked to ratify the renewal of the Spotify sponsorship agreement, extending the shirt deal until 2030 and the stadium naming rights until 2034.

Additionally, the assembly will vote to approve a new shirt sponsor to replace UNHCR on the back of the kit starting in July. The identity of this new partner is expected to be announced following Thursday’s meeting.

Finally, the meeting will validate a 10-year extension of the basketball team’s Euroleague license until 2036.

This decision comes despite the club recently hearing proposals regarding the NBA Europe project in London.
