HLN are reporting that Chelsea have their eye on Genk defender Yaimar Medina. At the weekend scouts from Chelsea were present to watch Genk draw 1-1 at home against Cercle Brugge. Despite the sides struggles so far this season, its clear that clubs such as Chelsea are spotting talent amongst the squad. While there is a relationship between Chelsea and Genk from past transfers, such as Mike Penders, Genk are not considering selling Medina this January.
Medina joined Genk in January 2025 from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle, where he had made 59 appearances between 2021 and 2025, scoring six goals. Medina only made three appearances for Genk last season as he settled into Belgian football. However, he has featured more prominently this year, hence why clubs like Chelsea are showing interest. Medina, now 21, has played 26 games this season across the Belgian Pro League and Europa League. He has scored once and provided one assist.
Medina is a full Ecuadorian international and will be hoping to add to his four caps so far by making it into the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
