A true high point in Duke Basketball history
Over the years, there have been a lot of great Duke Basketball games that unfortunately just crowd the others out. We all remember or know the UNLV game, the Fab Five wins, the Laettner Shot, the five championship games and the Austin Rivers game.
But there are more, children. Many, many more.
Gather ‘round and we’ll tell you about Ricky Price’s greatest Duke moment.
Price had something of a tough-luck career. He never had the same coach for two years in high school and when he got to Duke, Mike Krzyzewski took leave of absence in December of his freshman year. It was just a tough break for Duke and perhaps especially for Price, who never really approached his potential.
If you took all the Duke players with perhaps the exception of Zion Williamson and had a tournament in a 10X10 caged court, Price might win that. He was unbelievably quick.
His freshman year was difficult and in his sophomore year, with Coach K back, Duke was rebuilding. And when they went to Maryland, the Terps were licking their lips, thinking this was easy money.
It wasn’t – it was a very close game. And in the end, Maryland native Steve Wojciechowski got the ball to Price in the corner and he nailed the shot to give Duke an incredibly dramatic 77-75 win.
