Chelsea have reportedly rejected enquiries from Tottenham, Newcastle, and others for goalkeeper Mike Penders.

The clubs have apparently been lining up to try and sign him at the end of the season, when the stopper’s loan move at Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg comes to an end.

But as in the report, Chelsea are not interested in selling Penders because they have big plans for him themselves, with a first team integration on the cards.

TEAMtalk report that Penders is emerging as the frontrunner to take over Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper spot next season and beyond.

Chelsea have fended off multiple enquiries recently from a number of clubs including Premier League rivals such as Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton and Nottingham Forest.

All were keen to explore Penders’ potential availability for next season, but they were swiftly informed that the talented keeper is not on the market.

Due to the fact that Penders has already played under Rosenior at Strasbourg, Chelsea’s owners have allegedly asked the Blues head coach on what he thinks about Penders being number one next season, and the reaction was very positive on it.

So it looks like Penders could be set to make the big step up to become Chelsea number one stopper from next season.

The xG stats from the Aston Villa game last night show just how dominant Chelsea were – they battered their opposition away from home with a record.

Chelsea killed the game off with two lovely counter attack goals as Villa totally failed to deal with Garnacho on the counter.
