Fever Coach Stephanie White's Painful Admission Lands Loudly After Injury Blow

This is tough to hear.

The Indiana Fever were dealt a couple of massive blows on Friday after they learned that both Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald are done for the season. Both guards suffered injuries in Thursday’s 95-60 blowout loss to the Phoenix Mercury, and the Fever have announced that Colson and McDonald will be out for the remainder of the campaign.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Reacts to Colson’s Injury

Indiana head coach Stephanie White was asked about Colson’s injury after Thursday’s embarrassing loss to Phoenix. Colson suffered a non-contact injury right in front of the Fever bench, where she was seen writhing in pain on the floor in front of her teammates.

White admitted that it was an emotional moment for the squad.

“It affects us emotionally, because nobody wants to see a teammate go down like that,” White said in her postgame press conference. “But also, on the floor, that's another point guard, a primary ball handler, someone who is a big part of our rotation on both ends of the floor.”

White made her comments before the Fever announced Colson’s season-ending ACL tear. However, the Fever shot-caller’s statement lands loudly now that it has been confirmed that the team will be without one of their key rotation players the rest of the way.

Aari McDonald Is Also Done for the Year

McDonald, on the other hand, exited the blowout late in the game. She had to be helped to the locker room after sustaining what was later diagnosed as a broken bone in her right foot.

This is a tough blow for the 5-foot-6 guard, who signed a season-long contract with the Fever back in June. She’s made quite an impact on the squad, especially after Caitlin Clark went down with a groin injury.

These unfortunate developments have placed the Fever in crisis mode. Clark still has no timetable for her return, and it does not seem like Indiana is going to change its stance on giving the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year as much time as she needs to rest and recover.

This will likely push the Fever to add a new player, as they’re now eligible for an emergency hardship waiver. Right now, Indiana has no healthy true point guard heading into Saturday’s rivalry matchup with the Chicago Sky.
