An Oklahoma native who became a champion at all three levels of football is being honored by the first college he attended.
Jeremy Shockey, the former standout tight end who won Super Bowl titles with both the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints, is going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M as part of its Class of 2025. He will be honored by the school during the weekend of Sept. 12-13 in Miami, Fla.
Shockey, a native of Ada, Okla., was a First-Team All-American tight end for NEO in 1999, where he caught 33 passes for 484 yards and seven touchdowns.
Then Shockey went from Miami, Okla., to Miami, Fla. Shockey transferred to play at the University of Miami, and continued to have success, including 2001, when he was an integral part of one of college football’s greatest teams as the Hurricanes went undefeated and won the BCS national championship.
Shockey declared early for the NFL draft after the 2001 season and was drafted in the first round by the Giants. He became a Pro Bowl tight end in four of his first five seasons with the team, and was a member of the Giants’ 2007 team that won Super Bowl XLII against New England, denying the Patriots a perfect season.
In 2008, Shockey was traded to the New Orleans Saints, and was part of the franchise’s first (and only) Super Bowl title when the ’09 Saints captured Super Bowl XLIV. Shockey caught the go-ahead TD in the Super Bowl win against the Indianapolis Colts.
After also playing for the Carolina Panthers, Shockey retired in 2011 after a career in which he caught 547 passes, 6,143 yards and 37 TDs.
A native of Ada, Shockey attended high school there, where he primarily played at wide receiver and outside linebacker, and was part of the Cougars’ back-to-back state title teams in 1995-96. In his senior year, he caught 50 passes for 1,108 yards and five TDs.
Shockey isn’t the only former NFL player being honored by NEO in its Hall of Fame class. Former running back James Wilder, who played 10 seasons, most notably with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and cornerback Corey Ivy are also being inducted as part of the NEO’s Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
Wilder, who was a Pro Bowl running back with the Buccaneers, played at NEO in 1977 before transferring to Missouri, where he led the Tigers to three bowl appearances. Ivy played at NEO in 1995-96 before transferring to Oklahoma. He went on to play in the NFL for several teams from 1999-09, and was part of the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl XXXVII winning squad.
