Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski shared major injury, and perhaps contract-related, updates on Shedeur Sanders during a Thursday press conference.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski shares admission on Shedeur Sanders, possibly reveals roster status originally appeared on The Sporting News
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski conceded that Shedeur Sanders would likely be playing through his oblique strain if he played a position other than quarterback.
In the process, he may have revealed that Sanders is a lock to make the roster, not needing to play through an injury to make the team.
“Yeah, felt it early, I think, warming up and then felt it throughout individuals, so took a look at it. You know, if it’s a right guard, you can play through that. When it’s a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw. So unfortunately, going to put him down for a little bit here. We’ll treat it day to day and see how he responds. But want to be smart because he’s a thrower, so you can’t push that thing,” Stefanski said on Thursday.
With Sanders out, the thought was that Dillon Gabriel could get an extended look. His hamstring injury may prevent him from starting, though.
Tyler Huntley can start for the Browns against the Eagles
Stefanski danced around answering the question directly, but he admitted that Tyler Huntley is likely to be the team’s QB1 for their second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.
“Obviously, you know, Snoop (Tyler Huntley) knows exactly what to do, how to do it. So, he is ready to roll. We’ll see who else is available,” Stefanski said.
Huntley getting the preseason start would essentially be a waste of reps, considering he’s most likely not making the roster.
The Browns’ discombobulated summer continues. We’ll see if any order is brought to Berea as it nears its possibly bitter end.
