It's been two weeks since Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin made his official trade request. But with the NFL season just three weeks away, it appears that members of the coaching staff are getting tired of waiting for him to return.

It was Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury who made his angst over McLaurin's absence from the field clear this week.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Kingsbury addressed McLaurin being around the team for meetings and observing practices but not participating in head-on drills. He said that he doesn't believe that McLaurin will get nearly as much value from merely observing as from training in live reps.

“I don’t know exactly how much you can get out of that,” Kingsbury said. “I think we’re kind of at that point to where we need to start getting those guys, when they’re available, out there and jelling to see where we are as an offense.”

Reaction

Why in the world Kingsbury would be complaining about McLaurin not getting live reps when the man has publicly announced that he wants out is a bit of a mystery though.

Fans on social media have argued that McLaurin is still under contract with the team, so he should be out there practicing regardless. Others believe that the person Kingsbury should be complaining to is general manager Adam Peters.

"Good. Someone needs to start saying something. HE'S UNDER CONTRACT and TEAM CONTROL FOR 2 YEARS," one user asserted.

"Man we're gonna be so rusty come opening day even if Terry out there if they don't get this done with. Not trying to go 1-3 and lose to teams we should be beating before we start clicking. Make a move at this point, get the deal done or move on," another wrote.

"He should talk to Adam Peters," a third remarked.

"Terry is gonna have the offense rusty."

"Give him his money they he earned simple… 28M at the lowest…30 Mil at the highest. If 28-30M can’t get Terry back in the building then at that point Terry isn’t trying to work with the team, so I’ll just have him play on this last year and tag him for 2 yrs."

Someone has to blink at some point. If the Commanders are completely unwilling to give McLaurin a new contract then McLaurin has to decide if he's willing to sit out games to force the team's hand.

And if the team's hand won't be forced, it's going to be a very expressive sit-out.

How do you see this getting resolved?
