2025 IMSA Indianapolis starting lineup: Acura takes fourth consecutive pole

Tom Blomqvist qualifies first for the Battle on the Bricks in the No. 60 ARX-06.

Tom Blomqvist kept a Meyer Shank Racing Acura in the top qualifying spot for the fourth consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race, capturing the pole position Saturday for the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

For his sixth career pole but first since 2023, Blomqvist turned a 1-minute, 14.569-second lap in the No. 60 ARX-06 that he shares with Colin Braun. Blomqvist also led the premier Grand Touring Prototype category in both practice sessions on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course.

"The guys have done a fantastic job," Blomqvist told NBC Sports' Matt Yocum. "We've really made massive inroads with the car, with the team. It's a bit of a new venture, a lot more new personnel, and everyone has just been getting stronger and stronger.

"We've actually learned a ton about the car. It's definitely getting faster and faster. I was just able to deliver today."

Jack Aitken qualified second in the No. 31 Cadillac V-Series.R, followed by Louis Deletraz and Ricky Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillacs.

Matt Campbell was fifth in the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963, which was five spots ahead of PPM's championship-leading No. 7 963.

Nick Yelloly, Blomqvist's MSR Acura teammate, qualified sixth in the No. 93 ARX-06, which was aiming for its fourth consecutive pole.

It was a disappointing qualifying session for BMW M Team RLL, which started the 2025 season with three consecutive poles. The Nos. 24 and No. 25 BMW M Hybrid V8s will start beside each other on the fourth row.

The pole was especially sweet for Blomqvist, who said it was his first time at the Brickyard since he crashed on the first lap of the 2024 Indy 500 (in what turned out to be the final start of rookie season in IndyCar ).

"It wasn't a fun day at all," said Blomqvist, who returned full time to IMSA this year. "It feels a little bit different just because it's such a different event. It's not like I'm coming back here, and I've got a new IndyCar career, and I've done it there. That would obviously be a completely different ballgame.

"Yeah, it's special. Obviously, this is a pretty incredible place. I didn't spend a lot of time here in the past year. So yeah, it is nice to be back and put it on pole position."
