UEFA confirm two-match ban for France’s Aurélien Tchouaméni

Didier Deschamps will not have one of his most versatile players at his disposal for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

UEFA confirmed on Tuesday that Aurélien Tchouaméni (25) will be suspended for France’s next two games. The Real Madrid man was red-carded in a 2-1 victory for Les Bleus at home to Iceland in their second qualification contest at the Parc des Princes on September 9.

The French will face Azerbaijan on October 10 before travelling to Reykjavik for a second match with Iceland three days later. Tchouaméni started both of their September qualifiers, playing as a deep-lying midfielder alongside Manu Koné (24).

Tchouaméni’s suspension could open the door for Adrien Rabiot (30) to return to the starting line-up, with the new AC Milan midfielder coming on as a substitute for both of their September fixtures.

France are on top of the Group D qualifying standings with two wins from two games.
