Chivas get win after overcoming Puebla and a terrible pitch in delayed match

The match that was postponed one day because of rain, ended with Chivas defeating Puebla by a 2-0 score.

Chivas got a 2-0 victory over Puebla in a match that was delayed one day after the field getting flooded on Friday night. The postponement didn’t help the field, which was terribly muddy and really had an impact in the match. The two early goals helped Chivas get a victory and helped the team to handle itself well on defense and for counters. Chivas will not have another away match, this time against Pumas while Puebla travels to face an improving Queretaro.

The 1st half started with the terrible field conditions still being terrible. A cross into the area from Richard Ledezma would be volleyed by a half bicycle kick from Bryan Gonzalez and it would go past Puebla’s goalkeeper, Julio Gonzalez and into the net to score and give Chivas the 1-0 lead. It was a wonderful goal, easily the best goal Chivas had scored in the season so far. From outside the area, Omar Govea got off a right footed shot that went past that arms of Gonzalez and into the net to score and give Chivas the 2-0 lead. It was a bad mistake by Gonzalez, who got to the ball but let it go thru his arms. A left footed shot from Efrain Alvarez went just wide. After getting the ball in the area, Owen Gonzalez got off a left footed shot that went wide. After a harsh tackle, Santiago Sandoval was given a red card but after going to VAR, the ref corrected and only gave a Yellow card. Puebla subbed out Owen Gonzalez for Edgar Guerra. Emiliano Gomez got off a right footed shot from outside the area that was easily saved by Chivas’ goalkeeper, Raul Rangel. A cross from Gomez turned into a shot that was saved by Rangel. A cross into the area was headed by Guerra but deflected wide by Bryan Gonzalez in a great save.

The 2nd half started with Chivas subbing out Bryan Gonzalez and Santiago Sandoval for Miguel Gomez and Cade Cowell. Puebla subbed out Raul Castillo for Carlos Balcazar. Baltazar would get off a right footed shot from outside the area but it went just wide. Chivas subbed out Efrain Alvarez for Miguel Tapias in a very defensive move. Puebla countered by subbing out Miguel Ramirez for forward Esteban Lozano. The teams traded possession as the terrible field conditions hampered both teams. A cross into the area found Nicolas Diaz, who headed the ball from close range but it went just wide. Chivas subbed out Richard Ledezma for Isaac Brizuela. A cross into the area was headed just wide by Lozano. Puebla subbed out Fernando Monarrez for Iker Moreno. Chivas subbed out Armando Gonzalez for Alan Pulido. Baltazar got the ball in the area but his right footed shot was saved by Rangel. After getting mad for a call, Guerra kicked a ball into the Chivas’ bench, starting a scuffle and earning a Yellow card. A cross into the area went past Rangel but before a Puebla attacker could get the open net chance, Jose Castillo cleared the ball. A left footed shot from Guerra got deflected wide. There were no more chances as Chivas got a deserved victory in a terrible field.

Chivas got another important victory in a very difficult situation. An incredible rainstorm on Friday forced the game to be delayed one day but the situation with the field didn’t improved. The field had already suffered after a strong rainstorm on Tuesday hurt the field before the Puebla vs Pachuca match made the situation worse. Chivas benefited from having two early goals, one a wonderful goal and the other a terrible mistake from Puebla’s goalkeeper. Still Chivas defeated a Puebla side that is doing terrible and is last place in the standings. They will have a much tougher test next weekend when they face off against Pumas in Mexico City. Meanwhile Puebla solidifies their situation as the worst team in Liga MX and they will have a tough away visit against a Queretaro, who is improving although they are only one spot above Puebla.
