Lioli coach adamant Pirates is the best team in Africa

Lioli FC head coach Bongani Maseko says Orlando Pirates are currently the best team on the African continent.

The Lesotho champions suffered a 7-0 aggregate defeat to the Soweto giants in a two-legged tie of the first preliminary round in the CAF Champions League.

Reflecting on the two matches, the South African tactician acknowledged Pirates boast of a host of quality players in their ranks, in contrast to his team.

“Sometimes in football there is quality superiority, so I think Pirates have the best players in Africa. I will make an example, we played a low block in the first leg, but they were able to unlock it. They have very good players, depth, they can substitute players,” said Maseko.

While he is pleased with his team’s showing, Maseko believes Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side is currently head and shoulders above the rest of the pack in Africa.

“I am happy with the level that we performed, and I know there are things we need to improve and use this experience to win the league again,” he added.

“I think we have gained a lot of experience after playing against a tougher opponent. I think honestly Pirates is the best team in Africa currently and they are the best team in form.

“I think we needed such an experience, and I think this experience will help us to win the league again because we want to win it for the third time.
