Browns loss to Lions was about turning points

There are important moments in every game that swing the pendulum — this time not in the Browns’ favor

The final score of 34-10 doesn’t truly reflect the level of competition between the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions. The Browns were in contention through the first three quarters, but there were a few key moments that stood out as turning points that ultimately led to the Browns unraveling.

One of these key moments came with about a minute and a half left to go in the third quarter. Rookie kicker Andre Szmyt had the chance to cut the Lions’ lead to one score with a 56-yard field goal attempt. In a season that has been plagued by special teams issues, Szmyt’s missed kick kept Cleveland down by two possessions.

With about 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Browns were trailing 20-10, and the game was still in reach. Quarterback Joe Flacco delivered a great pass to Jerry Jeudy that would’ve been at least a 28-yard gain. Instead, Jeudy dropped the pass, adding to his list of errors on the season and ruining the team’s chance of making it a field goal game. It was a frustrating moment, especially considering how lackluster the offense looked throughout the first three quarters.

Those two plays – the missed field goal and dropped ball – completely shifted the momentum in the game. It was demoralizing and deflated any hopes the Browns had of making a comeback in this game. If this team has any chance of winning against tougher competition, these types of errors cannot continue.

Let me know what you think in the comments – Were these the biggest turning points in the game? What sealed the Browns’ fate?
