Notre Dame football will face a tough foe on Saturday in the Boise State Broncos, and here are three ways they could upset the Irish.
Three reasons why Boise State upsets Notre Dame football this Saturday
Notre Dame is set to host the Boise State Broncos on Saturday afternoon, and while it may seem like it should be an easy win for the Irish, it very well might not be.
The Broncos lone loss this fall was to a team that started off with two ranked wins, as South Florida showed they are a very good squad. Since that loss where they only scored 7-points, they’ve reeled off three straight games with over 45-points. The Broncos will bring a solid offense to South Bend.
Their defense is a different story, as they haven’t exactly lit the world on fire, but there is still plenty of talent on that side of the ball for Boise State.
They have been giant killers in the past, and here are three ways they could upset Notre Dame.
Notre Dame’s defense regresses
Over the past two games, we’ve seen a much different Irish defense, but it could have been fools gold. The two offenses they faced were some of the best, and while Arkansas did enter the game with a statistically great one, it was really just a one-man show. There improvement has been very encouraging, but there are bound to be a few more hiccups in the process. I hope this doesn’t happen on Saturday, but there is a chance that the Notre Dame defense starts to struggle again, and reverts to what we saw during the first two games.
CJ Carr doesn’t protect the ball well
Carr has been elite over the past two weeks, but it’s against defenses that aren’t all that great. Boise State also does not have a top unit on that side of the ball, but there are more than a few playmakers the Irish will have to face. Carr has had some issues with poorly thrown balls, and the Broncos will look to capitalize on those attempts. They have three members of their secondary that are very good, and a a few errors by Carr could see the game go in a direction that Notre Dame doesn’t want it to.
Boise State magic reappears
This could very well be over, as they enter the season ranked, and promptly lost its opener to South Florida. The Bulls would eventually crack the top-25, so that loss is justified a bit. They almost beat Oregon last fall, and did beat a ranked UNLV, then lost to Penn State in the College Football Playoff. Notre Dame is the more talented team, by a wide margin, but we’ve seen the Irish play down to their opponents before. If that happens, there could be a dog fight on Saturday afternoon.
